In the Bible, there are three passages about fasting for forty days (human beings’ longest fasting period recorded in the Bible): Moses went up on the mountain for forty days to receive God’s Word; Elijah traveled forty days with no food or drink to reach Horeb; Jesus was led to the desert to be tempted by the devil, hence fasting for forty days. The three passages share these in common:
